Health Risks Of MDF - Element 1.1

Health Risks Of MDF

Many people are concerned about the health risks involved in the use of Medium Density Fibreboard. The health risks are generally based on the machining and dust-particle control while working with MDF. Once MDF has been finished as furniture, or whatever, there is little or no acknowledged health risk.

Even at a low level, exposure to formaldehyde though inhalation can cause irritation to the eyes, nose, throat and mucous membrane. Formaldehyde can also affect the skin, leading to dermatitis, and the respiratory system causing asthma and rhinitis

Because formaldehyde can only cause damage through inhalation if a safety mask is used whilst processing the MDF the risk of damage through inhalation is distinguished.
