Medium density fiberboard, or MDF, Is made out of wood waste fibers glued together with resin, heat, and pressure. MDF is appropriate for many applications such as panelling for cabinets, furniture, doors, and even flooring. It is smooth, uniform, and won't warp so it is good for these purposes.I am using MDF because it is dense and easy to use. The density is important because It can insulate against unwanted frequencies and produce better Sound. It also adds to the Strength and durabitity of the speakers.Carpet underlay is used to underlay carpets. It acts like a cushion to comfort against the hard floor when you walk on the carpet. a similar material to carpet underlay is used to insulate inside houses and ceilings.I will be using Carpet Underlay to line the inside of my speakers. This is so it will absorb and dampen the unwanted frequencies that cancel out the good sound. It can do this because it is a soft material and it does not conduct acoustic sound very well and it will channel the sound in a single direction out the speakers
